Cindy McCain's New Scandal

((Cross-posted at Clintonistas for Obama)

The Washington Post is revealing a potential scandal that affects the McCains.  Seems that Cindy thought her ranch in the desert needed cell phone coverage, and fortunately, her husband happens to be "a senior member of the Senate Commerce Committee, which oversees the Federal Communications Commission and the telecommunications industry."  So what a cellular service provider to do?

Well, Verizon and AT&T didn't really think there was anything they could do but accommodate Mrs. McCain:

Verizon delivered a portable tower know as a "cell site on wheels" -- free of charge -- to Cindy McCain's property in June in response to an online request from Cindy McCain's staff early last year. Such devices are usually reserved for restoring service when cell coverage is knocked out during emergencies, such as hurricanes. In July, AT&T followed suit, wheeling in a portable tower for free to match Verizon's offer.

Well, well.  I have all my phone service from Verizon; I think it's interesting how they're spending the profits they make off of me.

How much would it cost (2.00 / 1)

if she (Cindy) had to pay for it?

(she owns everything, and they file separately, so she doesn't have to release her tax returns)

They THink McCain is Losing too (2.00 / 2)

Notice the portable site. They plan to tow it off Nov. 5th.

They would have poured concrete next to Obama's place, if he had one.

Re: Cindy McCain's New Scandal (2.00 / 1)

how is it an attack?

And how would she have gotten this if she wasn't married to a Senator?

Re: Cindy McCain's New Scandal (none / 0)

She'd get it as running as a VIP in her daddy's business.

Nothing abnormal about it, but probably looks bad in the scheme of things.

Re: Cindy McCain's New Scandal (none / 0)

It would cost about 25K.  But I'll caveat this concern.  The Cell carriers do this type of thing regularly for businesses as well.  If it's in thier interest to make sure CXO's have coverage they will do it.  So I don't think this is a huge issue.

And by the way, I'm completely in the tank for Obama.  I would much rather talk about Cindy McCain's abuse of drugs than this because I think it's more relvant to her character.  So just to be clear where my loyalties lie.  8)

Re: Cindy McCain's New Scandal (none / 0)

i am all for obama BUT attacking someone due to their addictions is not fair.  Attack her on her character, attacker them on their positions, but not for addiction.   It is not a deduction on character but it reflects what the brain does in certain situations, i.e., when it is introduced to narcotic pain killers.

Re: Cindy McCain's New Scandal (2.00 / 2)

That's not the point.  The point is a conflict of interest.  She is taking gifts and handouts from contributers, and McCain is all against that. Since they are married, it might be considered a gift to Mccain as well.  It is also poor judgement, and considering how much money she has and that she could easily pay for it, it was ignorant on her part.  Especially considering the possible impact it might have on McCain's campaign.  Her drug addiction was handled openly and she has spoken about that openly to the media.  There is nothing to talk about with that.

Re: Cindy McCain's New Scandal (none / 0)

I don't think this is a conflict of interest though.  Honestly here is how the conversation goes to carrier "I don't have coverage at my 7 houses"

Carrier:  "Well we will put up a tower so you have better coverage since you are such a big customer."

I work in the industry and it really isn't that big a deal because of the size of the business she owns.  They probably give both carriers enough business to justify it.

On the drug note, point taken from everyone that has responded.  I think it's a bigger character flaw myself, but I respect what the others have written about it.  My original point was that this issue is a small issue that won't get traction, there are other issues (lots of them) that would be better discussed.
